How Much Is A Laser Engraving Machine
A laser engraving machine can cost anywhere from $300 to over $10,000. One very expensive laser engraver on the market is the SmartShop® Laser | EX which comes in at a cost of $12,999. There are some even more expensive options out there.
The laser engraver that i currently own is the Longer Ray 5 20W. This laser engraver is currently sitting at a price of $530. I have learned so much from this single laser engraver over the last couple of months.

Type of Laser Engraving Machine
There are many different types of engraving machines that you can choose from. Below i will go over each of these with their pros and cons.
Fiber
$500 to $600,000+
CO2 / Gas
$500 to $1,000,000+
Diode
$99 to $2,000+
I had to update some of these prices as these machines are constantly getting more popular. Therefore, prices will usually go down.
Laser Engraver Types: Pros and Cons
Choosing the right laser engraver depends on your needs and budget. Here's a breakdown of the three main types you mentioned, along with their pros and cons:
Fiber Laser Engraver:
Price Range: $500 to $600,000+
Pros:
- Permanent marking: Creates durable marks on various materials, including metals, plastics, and glass.
- High precision and detail: Delivers excellent engraving quality with fine lines and intricate patterns.
- Fast engraving speed: Enables efficient production of large quantities.
- Compact design: Often smaller than CO2 lasers, saving space in your workshop.
Cons:
- High initial cost: The most expensive option among these three types.
- Limited material compatibility: While versatile, it may not work on all materials like CO2 lasers do.
- Safety concerns: Requires stricter safety measures due to the high-powered laser beam.
The fiber laser that I plan on getting soon is the ComMarker B4. It is an awesome fiber laser and only comes in at a cost of around $1999. However, you can usually find it on their website for discounts up to $300.
CO2 / Gas Laser Engraver:
Price Range: $500 to $1,000,000+
Pros:
- Wide range of material compatibility: Works on wood, acrylic, leather, rubber, and even some metals.
- Affordable compared to fiber lasers: Offers a wider range of options at lower price points.
- Good for deep engraving and cutting: Can engrave deeper and cut thicker materials than diode lasers.
- Established technology: Well-understood technology with readily available support and resources.
Cons:
- Larger footprint: Typically bulkier than diode and fiber lasers, requiring more workspace.
- Higher maintenance: Gas tubes and other components need regular maintenance.
- Slower engraving speed: Generally slower than fiber lasers, especially for detailed work.
Diode Laser Engraver:
Price Range: $99 to $2,000+
Pros:
- Compact and portable: Small and lightweight, making them ideal for hobbyists and small businesses.
- Most affordable option: The most budget-friendly choice among these three types.
- Easy to use: Often user-friendly with simple controls and software.
- Good for simple engraving tasks: Suitable for basic personalization and marking on soft materials.
Cons:
- Lower power and engraving speed: Limited power output results in slower engraving and shallow marking depth.
- Limited engraving depth and detail: Not ideal for intricate designs or deep engraving.
- Safety concerns: Requires caution due to the visible laser beam, but generally less risky than high-powered lasers.
